Astragalus Could Help Prevent Toxoplasmosis

Toxoplasmosis is caused by a common parasite. It is one of the leading causes of death by foodborne illness in the U.S.—mostly in newly infected pregnant women and those with compromised immune systems. ¹²⁴

One animal study showed that astragalus improves the efficacy of a vaccine against this infection. Results showed astragalus: ⁶⁹

• Decreased the number of parasites in the body.
• Enhanced immune response.
• Improved survival time.

Results of a second study suggest astragalus can also improve the effectiveness of conventional drug therapy for acute infection. ¹²⁵
